Series 8500 Floor Stand Stirred Reactors

Parr Instrument Company is excited to announce a new series of large capacity, high pressure stirred reactors. The 50 L and 100 L models of the new 8500 Series expand the available volume of our standard offering by more than five times, while retaining the easy-to-use features our customers have come to expect from Parr.

Ideally suited for scale up or pilot work, the geometry, features, and operation are very similar to that of smaller Parr reactors, but with a volume intermediate between lab-scale and traditional production scale stirred reactors.

Parr has seen a recent increase in demand for both parallel and series multi reactor systems. Parallel systems have been requested for use in high-throughput screening, combinatorial chemistry, corrosion testing, and catalyst testing. Multiple reactors plumbed in series have typically been configured as CSTR’s used for conducting multiple reactions sequentially. With this demand, we have designed and manufactured multi reactor systems using our largest stirred reactors (four 20L), to our smallest (six 25mL), and many in between.

Our multi reactor systems are used by combinatorial chemists at pharmaceutical companies, catalyst development researchers at petroleum companies, material scientists at polymer producers, production engineers at energy storage and mining companies, and academic researchers pursuing widely varied research avenues.

Parr Introduces New A1000G Tri-Axial Core Holder

For studies involving fluid displacement in porous media


Parr Instrument Company has introduced a new product to its line of world-leading instruments. The new Model A1000G Tri-Axial Core Holder is designed to be used in the testing of geologic core samples or other similar cylindrical samples for porosity, permeability, and related characteristics.

Features include:

  • Operating pressures to 7500 psig (500 bar) and temperatures up to 200 C.
  • Provision for simultaneously subjecting a core sample to axial and radial pressures of unequal magnitude.
  • Supporting core diameters of nominally one inch (2.5 cm) and lengths up to four inches (10 cm). Other variations are available.
  • 316 Stainless Steel wetted parts or other commercially available corrosion resistant materials.

Parr Introduces New Machined Stirrers

For difficult, highly viscous substances

Parr’s line of excellent stirrers has been expanded to include a new robust spiral stirrer, machined from a solid bar of stainless steel or any other material in which Parr reactors are offered.

This one piece spiral design is specifically tailored to handle difficult, highly viscous substances such as heavy oils, polymers, and even slurries with significant solids content.

Features Include:

  • The new machined stirrers can be customized for reactors with flat or tapered base geometries, with both upflow and downflow blade options available.
  • Curved scoop design along the bottom blades to help lift heavier materials from the bottom of the cylinder.
  • No second set of blade required due to the new solid, single unit design.

Parr is a distinctive calorimeter producer in the market. It is well known that a large portion of Parr’s business is custom built reactor systems. However, few know that Parr builds custom calorimeters for special tasks as well.

Features Include:

  • A high strength combustion micro-vessel 1109X with the corresponding bucket, for use in a 6200 Calorimeter.
  • Optimized for applications where samples have a small energy release but generate high dynamic pressure during the combustion.
  • This special version of the Parr 6200 Calorimeter and 1109X Vessel performs with better than 1% precision for energy releases as low as 1 kJ

Custom External Catalyst Addition Devices

New Custom External Catalyst Addition Device on 4563

Recently, we have offered custom external catalyst addition devices (XCAD) for some of our systems to compliment our standard atmospheric XCADs. The new design allows customers to add the catalyst while the system is under pressure and heated to a set temperature. It can even be used in place of our solids charging port (SCP) for some systems.
